Adobe Premiere Pro

Starting the Evaluation

I have started creating my evaluation and I am having to use a new program that I haven't used before. So far on Adobe Premiere Pro I have been adding the slides between the clips I will be filming.  I have learnt how to create slide with text on. To do this you need to open up a new document or add them to a document you are currently working on.

Step 1: You need to click on the new item button which is the icon which looks like a post-it note. Then if you want to add text click on the Title... option.

Step 2: This is where you can name the clip/slide so it is easier to know which one is which. I have named mine Q1 - Q7 as each different slide has a different question on. This will make it a lot easier if things become out of order or you delete a slide by accident. You won't need to search through loads of different ones. Then you click okay.

Step 3: You will need to select the T button and then draw a rectangle (text box). Then you can chose the font and the size colour and what ever else you want to add. When you are done just close the small window and the slide will be in the bin. Then you can drag it down to the timeline.

So far I have made a opening page and a slide for each question. I will be inserting videos and images in between each one once I have filmed them.

Evaluation Deadline

Starting the evaluation

Today we were told what we had to do for the evaluation we could choose between a blog, a power point, a pod cast or a DVD extras. Since I am doing the development of my magazine on a blog I don't want to do another one. A pod cast will be difficult to show what I am talking about as the magazine is a physical thing so describing it would also be difficult. It's between a power point and a DVD extras. I think I am going to create the DVD extras, However a lot of people in the past have created something extremely creative however I think I am just going to answer the questions as I would rather answer them properly than not answer them properly and have something a little more creative. The dead line is May 7th. There are 7 questions I will be answering.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products.

2. How does your magazine represent particular social groups.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I will also be filming short clips of other people talking about my magazine.

Charts and Issue Number

Details

In my first draft of my contents page I didn't have the name of the magazine or the issue number so I added it under the heading. I got inspiration form the MOJO magazine and I think this makes it look so much better as it adds more sections making it look more organised and planned.

3 sub headings

Contents page sections

I decided to put my contents page into 3 different sections instead of just having different stories all over the place. I did this to add more structure to the page and to follow the style model. This page is heavily influenced by a Mojo contents page and I much prefer this layout compared to my first style. I didn't copy it exactly I changed some things around and I'm happy with the result.

Moving Small Quotes

Integrating the Quotes

I realised that the quotes didn't look right at all when I put them in between the columns. Therefore I integrated them into the text and I added the black lines to separate them from the text and I think it looks more professional. I also changed what the quotes said as I added and edited my article. I wanted the quotes to be dramatic so they reader would want to read the article to find out more. I think I managed to do that with "If people don't like me for who I am then what's the point?" and "I had no friends, no money and nowhere to go!"

Colour Inspiration

Pink and Blue

I didn't know what colours I was going to use in my magazine but when I was taking the photos for it I saw a mix of colours that I liked and I wanted to use. I really liked the colour of Amy's top that I chose for her to wear, that is why I used the pink. However I really liked the mix of the pink and the blue from the garage door. So I used the blue as well. It is an unusual mix of colours however it also makes the magazine appeal to boys and girls. When I chose purple I did that so that the blue and pink weren't so different, I chose a colour in between the too. Also purple was highly requested in my survey.

Naomi Conaway Colour Change

Main Article

The front cover image and the title need to link. Before I changed it the Naomi Conaway was smaller and to one side of the page. It was also white and pink which didn't make it stand out. That's why I decided to enlarge the name and change the pink to purple. This also linked to my survey results as a lot of people wanted purple. I made it a darker purple as the pink and blue are quite light and I thought if I used a bright purple it may give a pop music magazine vibe and I didn't want that.

Front Cover Font and Resizing Text

Getting Rid of Extra Space

I wanted to a make the contents page not have as many blank spaces as one style model did have space and one didn't. However for the image that I am using it matches the one without the space better. Therefore I decided to change the font to make it bigger. I also rephrased the article on the final cover as it took up more space.

New Image

Contents page

I decided to change my image for the contents page as I wanted Amy to wear a different outfit, as otherwise it would have been the same as the double page spread photos. I also think that the black dress makes the colour in the stories stand out more which is what I wanted. I also didn't have a photo that would have been appropriate for this style of page so I thought I would dedicate a photo shoot just to get this image.

Moved Quote

Large Quote from Article

Although some of my style models did have the quote where mine was originally placed, under the title, I think that for my double page spread it looks better. Putting the quote on the image meant I could have the title a bit bigger and I could make the text boxes slightly taller as before they where to short.

Small Amy Image

More Images

Since I completely changed the style of my contents page it meant that I only had three images overall. I decided to add another image on the double page spread as it shows a different side to Naomi and it follows the style models. I think that this also makes the page look more appealing and it would make it catch your eye a lot more than just a single image. Also now I have four photos which is the requirement.

Extending the article

Smaller text size

I realised that the font I was using was size 15 and my article lacked depth. I looked at my style models and the text size is usually between a size 8-12. That is why I made my font smaller. This also makes it look more like an article as there isn't as much space between the lines and the letters. Since I changed the size by 5/6 sizes I had a lot more space to extend my article. This meant I could really show who Naomi was and put some depth into the interview/article.

The Touch Ups

Hard at Work

I have been making a few changes to my work to improve the overall appearance. Although some of them are only small changes I think that when they are all put together they make the pages look so much better

In the image above I am resizing some of the lines on the front cover to make them fit the text

On this image I am adding a very light grey to the page of text on my double page spread. You can only slightly notice it however I think it makes it look more polished as I've added something there. It's not just plain white you can see where the page is.

Crediting the Author

Who's it by

I added my name for who took the pictures and wrote the article as this is a common convention of a magazine music or not so I thought it was important. I decided to put it vertical as it takes up less space and it makes it look like its referring to the image, which it is.

Bar code

Fitting

The bar code I made and placed wasn't lined up properly and the numbers weren't in the right place. I just moved them so it was more professional. I also made the date and the price fit along the top so it didn't take up too much space. I also decided to put the date here because that is where key information for the is e.g the price.

New ContentsPage

Whole new layout

I decided that I didn't like the layout of my contents page so I changed it completely and I think it has made a huge improvement. I think overall it looks like it belongs in a music magazine and the first one doesn't look like a page at all.  The only thing with this image of the new contents page is that the fonts are different. When I have exported this image it doesn't have to same fonts on that my final contents page will have. The font makes it look more professional as well, I think.

Photo shoot 7

Studio

Today I was taking photos for my contents page again as last time the lighting wasn't working. however since the last photo shoot I have placed the image on the contents page and I now know what I want my image to look like. These images will still need brightening however I think I am definitely using one from this shoot.
